Transfer to your Negombo hotel and check-in. Relax and listen to the waves as you drift off to sleep.

Highlights: Umandawa Buddhist Village, Dambulla Cave Temple

Breakfast at the hotel.

Leave Negombo for Sigiriya.

On the way, stop at the Umandawa Buddhist Village and lunch.

Unforgettable Moment: Umandawa Buddhist Village, located in Melsiripura, is a peaceful retreat nestled in the island’s scenic countryside. Known for its peaceful atmosphere, the village is a centre of Buddhist practice and offers visitors the opportunity to experience traditional meditation, Dhamma talks, and Buddhist rituals. Surrounded by lush landscapes and dotted with stupas and shrines, Umandawa provides a tranquil environment for spiritual growth and reflection. It is also a great destination for those seeking mindfulness, simplicity, and a deeper connection to Buddhist teachings since it promotes sustainable living through organic farming.

Upon completion visit the Dambulla Cave Temple.

This historic temple has five caves and 157 statues of the Lord Buddha, many paintings on the ceilings and walls that emphasise the artistic talent of ancient days. The history of the caves, rock, and temple dates from the first century BC. The fascination of these caves is not only the statues but also the many intricate and delicate paintings that cover the ceiling and walls, created with indigenous traditional paints. Because of the history, archaeological and artistic implications, it was declared as one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites in 1991.

Located in the alluring cultural triangle of Sri Lanka, Ayurvie Sigiriya is an Ayurvedic hotel nestled near Sigiriya Rock, where it embraces the splendour of its natural surroundings.

Ayurvie Retreat includes:

  • Vegetarian meals only
  • Herbal drinks / Fruit Juices / Water / Herbal Tea
  • Morning / Evening Yoga sessions
  • Cookery Demonstration and Pottery experience during your stay
  • A bird watching tour with the inhouse Naturalist

Highlights: The UNESCO Sites of Sigiriya Rock and the Ancient City of Polonnaruwa

After breakfast, visit the World Heritage listed Sigiriya fortress and climb the rock.

The fifth century rock citadel of King Kasyapa and World Heritage Site – Sigiriya – does not only boast of ancient Sri Lankan engineering and urban planning supremacy but also acclaims to be one of the finest monuments of art and culture. Step through the gigantic ‘Lion Paws’ – overlooking the symmetrical royal gardens below – to comprehend the absolute splendour that once dominated this rock fortress. Surrounded by ramparts and moats the Lion Rock – resembling the mythological ‘City of Gods’ – is coated by frescoes that relate to Gupta style paintings found in the Ajanta caves of India. Walk in the shade of an eminent ‘mirror wall’ embracing the Western face of Sigiriya, then wander into the museum for an epic journey of yesteryear to appreciate how the citadel floated above citizens with the castle, ponds and irrigation systems pumping water right onto its summit with an innovative hydraulic system that describes a monumental work of art of the great king which has been an Asian wonder for centuries.

Experience the vibrant flavours of Sri Lankan cuisine with a hands-on cookery demonstration in the heart of Sigiriya. This immersive session invites you to explore the rich culinary traditions of Sri Lanka as expert local chefs guide you through the preparation of traditional dishes using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. During the demonstration, you will learn the art of creating authentic Sri Lankan curries, sambols, and other regional specialties. Watch as spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and curry leaves are expertly blended to create dishes that are truly aromatic. You will also gain insight into the history and cultural significance of Sri Lankan cooking, making the experience both educational and delicious.

After a memorable lunch take a guided city tour of Polonnaruwa.

Rising with the decline of Anuradhapura, the city of Polonnaruwa – medieval capital and crown jewel of King Parakramabahu I – remains superior proof of ancient culture and heritage blended with religious beliefs. Blessed by stupas, resting Buddha statues, irrigation canals and fantastically carved Hindu sculptures – observe the relic house – Watadage – which boasts of beautiful stone carvings.

Start your day with a yoga or meditation session surrounded by nature, followed by a nutritious breakfast.

Ayurveda Immersion – Spend the day at Ayurvie Retreat Sigiriya in peace and relaxation.

Absorb yourself in traditional Ayurvedic Panchakarma treatments which will revitalise your mind, body, and soul. The retreats curated activities will give you the opportunity to experience the traditions and cultures of Sri Lanka in natural surroundings.

After breakfast, transfer to Kandy, the cultural heart of Sri Lanka.

Upon arrival, check into Santani Wellness, named one of the world’s best spas and ranked as Sri Lanka’s top wellness resort 2024.

Later, do a city tour of Kandy and visit the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic. This temple, originally built by the Kandyan Kings in 1595, to house and honour the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha. Attracting crowds of white-clad pilgrims bearing lotus flowers for means of worship, the Maligawa features a myriad of intricate carvings that speak volumes of the architectural values of Kandy. Today the City of Kandy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in part because of the Temple of the Tooth Relic.

End the day by watching the Kandyan Cultural Show with its colourful traditional dances and delightful music. The Kandy Cultural Show gives an opportunity to experience some of the traditions of Sri Lanka. Enjoy this extravaganza as some of the most popular art forms of the island take to the stage.
