Ayubowan! Arrive in Sri Lanka and meet your tour guide at the arrival lobby. 

Transfer to your Colombo hotel and check-in. 

Highlights: Turtle Hatchery, Madu River Boat Safari

Leave Colombo for Ahangama. 

En-route, visit the Turtle Hatchery on the Southwestern coast of Sri Lanka. Learn how the Turtle Care Program helps protect the nests until they hatch and increases the chances of survival for the babies. 

Later, do the Madu River Boat Safari. Traverse the dark and dangerous caverns formed by the thick mangrove forests; interspersed with bright open stretches of water. Learn more about mangroves and their positive effect on ecology. Get a chance to see crocodiles, water snakes, tree snakes and wild boars in their natural habitat. Watch the cormorants, storks and many other avian life hunts for their prey in the swift flow of Madu River.

Highlight: Whale Watching Cruise 

With a packed breakfast drive to Mirissa for our whale watching cruise. 

The Whale Watching Cruise gives you an opportunity to see the biggest mammals on earth, the whales, in their natural habitat. Get a chance to see blue whales, sperm whales and fin whales as they swim in the waters to the south of Sri Lanka. Gain more knowledge about the whales as a species from a qualified naturalist and learn to identify them. This tour gives you a responsible whale watching experience with a minimal imprint on nature. 

Return to the hotel upon completion of today’s excursion and spend the remainder of the day at leisure.

Unforgettable Moment: Sinharaja Forest Reserve is a national park and a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka. The hilly virgin rainforest, part of the Sri Lanka lowland rainforests ecoregion, were saved from the worst of commercial logging by its inaccessibility and was designated a World Biosphere Reserve in 1978 and a World Heritage Site in 1988. The reserve’s name translates as Kingdom of the Lion and is a treasure trove of endemic species, including trees, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. 

The most common larger mammal is the endemic, Purple-faced Langur. An interesting phenomenon is that birds tend to move in mixed feeding flocks, invariably led by the fearless Greater Racket-tailed Drongo and the noisy, Orange-billed Babbler. Of Sri Lanka’s 26 endemic birds, the 20 rainforest species all occur here, including the elusive Red-faced Malkoha, Green-billed Coucal and Sri Lanka Blue Magpie.

Leave Sinharaja for Udawalawa and check in-to the hotel. 

Later, visit Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home. The primary purpose of the Elephant Transit Home is to rehabilitate and release isolated baby elephants to the wild once they are ready to return. It is sure to be a memorable experience.

Highlight: Udawalawe National Park 

Collect a packed breakfast early this morning and enjoy a half day safari game drive at Udawalawe National Park by jeep. This park is an important habitat for waterbirds and Sri Lankan elephants. 

Return to the hotel upon completion of the Safari game drive. 

Leave Udawalawa for Yala. 

Check in-to the hotel & relax. 

Highlight: Yala National Park, Kumana National Park 

Early this morning, collect your packed breakfast and enjoy an exciting adventure by embarking on a safari game drive at Yala National Park. Explore the stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife of the area while enjoying a jeep ride through the picturesque national park. Witness elephants, birds, peacocks and deer as well as other fascinating creatures in their natural habitat. If you are lucky, you might be able to spot a leopard or a sloth bear during this safari too.

The gardens lie in the hill country among Sri Lanka’s tea plantations in the Nuwara Eliya district. 

(Optional): If you are a bird lover, you may opt to do the Kumana National Park Jeep Safari. Kumana National Park in Sri Lanka is renowned for its avifauna, particularly its large flocks of migratory waterfowl and wading birds. The park is contiguous with Yala National Park and was formerly known as Yala East National Park but changed to its present name about 20 years ago.

Leave Yala for Beragala.

Highlights: Lipton’s Seat, Tree planting activity

This morning, visit the Lipton’s Seat. It is the most popular attraction in Haputale. Situated an hour away from Haputale town, Lipton’s Seat is a viewpoint named after the celebrated Thomas Lipton. Lipton’s Seat is a popular vantage point, from where Thomas Lipton would sit with a cup of tea in hand and proudly look over his estate. 

Later, take part in a fulfilling tree Planting activity. 

Return to your hotel upon completion of the day’s activities.

Highlight: Scenic Train ride

Drive to Bandarawela and board the train for a scenic journey through the misty hills. 

Enjoy the most scenic train journey from Bandarawela to Nanu Oya. This train trip, not only taken by tourists but by locals themselves. This is not just a tourist attraction; it is life for the people of Sri Lanka. The lush green hills are purely breathtaking. The train takes you high into the mountains, through dense forest & vibrant green tea fields, over bridges, through tunnels, local villages, and beside smiling faces. 

On arrival to Nanu Oya, your guide will pick you up and then take you to the hotel. 

This evening, do the Nuwara Eliya city tour. Nuwara Eliya has the coolest climate in Sri Lanka and is called Little England. Visit the highland city that was the premium holiday resort town of the British in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Enjoy walking through the streets with their little cottages, quaint villas, and beautiful mansions. Make a memory in the old, red-bricked post office as you purchase a postcard to take home or send to your friends. Take a walk along Lake Gregory and choose to relax at Queen Victoria Park. 

(Bandarawela to Nanu Oya – Approx. 4.5 hrs. train ride)

Highlights: Horton Plains National Park, Hakgala Botanical Garden 

Unforgettable Moment: With packed breakfast, drive to Horton Plains in the early morning (approx.: 1.5-2 hrs) and enjoy a scenic walk to the local “World’s End”. Horton Plains is an undulating 2,000m-high plateau just 28km south of Nuwara Eliya. The grassy plains, which are interspersed with small patches of forest, are home to leopards, sambur, deer, bear, monkeys, and a rich array of birds, including some endemic species. The most dramatic feature of the national park is `World’s End,’ where the plateau comes to an abrupt halt and drops 1000m straight down. The park is frequented by Sambar Deer and due to their large numbers, the population of the Leopard also has increased. Wild Boar, the endemic Bear Monkey and Toque Monkey, Slender Loris, Fishing cat, Otter, Barking deer, Strip-necked Mongoose, Long-tailed Giant Squirrel are some of the other mammals found here. 

The trek takes approx.: 5 hrs and is 9km’s (depending on your fitness level & speed) 

Note: There is an always changing climate in Horton Plains due to the location & biodiversity. Hence sometimes it might be cool / windy / rainy / sunny. Hence wear a suitable outfit for the walk. 

Upon your return, visit Hakgala Botanical Garden: a picturesque Garden that was originally established for the purpose of experimentation and promotion of Cinchona cultivation in Sri Lanka. The gardens lying in the hill country among Sri Lanka’s tea plantations in the Nuwara Eliya district. 

Return to your hotel upon completion of the day’s activities.

Transfer to Kandy. 

En route, visit a Tea Plantation and factory. The production of tea involves a tedious procedure of plucking, withering, rolling, oxidising, and drying – a process that requires heavy machines and plenty of labour. Once in the tea factory, you will learn how tea is cultivated, where ancient machines pre-dating the industrial revolution wither, roll and dry the tea. There will be time at the end of the tour for a tea tasting. 

Visit the Royal Botanical Garden. Greatly contributing towards aspects such as floriculture, butterfly and biodiversity of the island, Peradeniya botanical gardens is truly a paradise of tropical greenery, with an abundance of bamboo, lianas, and lofty trees to wander amongst. 

Later in the day, visit the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic. This temple was originally built by the Kandyan Kings in 1595, to house and honour the sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha. Attracting crowds of white-clad pilgrims bearing lotus flowers for means of worship, the Maligawa features a myriad of intricate carvings that speak volumes of the architectural values of Kandy. Today the City of Kandy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in part because of the Temple of the Tooth Relic. 

(Optional): End the day by watching the Kandyan Cultural Show with its colourful traditional dances and delightful music. The Kandy Cultural Show gives an opportunity to experience some of the traditions of Sri Lanka. Enjoy this hour-long extravaganza as some of the most popular art forms of the island take to the stage. Be mesmerised by fire dancers and sword dancers. Watch the colourful Kandyan dancers take to the air to the thrumming primal beat of the drums.

Highlight: Udawattakele Sanctuary

Start the day by visiting the Udawattakele Sanctuary. Experience the tranquillity and solace of a forest habitat by visiting this small forest, which is a true hidden treasure. Udawattakele offers a delightful escape into nature in the heart of the city of Kandy. 

Leave Kandy for Colombo. 

Check in-to the hotel & relax.

Spend your day at leisure or choose to do some sightseeing and shopping before you return home. 

Check out at 7pm by which time your driver will transfer you from the hotel to the Airport to meet your departure flight.

    This 4-day cultural extension tour covers iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites and scenic experiences in Sri Lanka. It begins with a visit to the Dambulla Cave Temple, renowned for its ancient Buddhist statues and intricate ceiling paintings, followed by a stay in Sigiriya. Day two explores the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, offering stunning views, and the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, with its impressive archaeological treasures. Optional safaris at Minneriya National Park provide a chance to spot elephants and diverse wildlife.
